X is for eXPRESS THE LONGINGS #PoetryMonth #AtoZ

April #AtoZChallenge and #PoetryMonth

Three goals I had in mind while writing my collection of linked poetry:
1. To celebrate my appreciation of life
2. To experience the process of writing linked poetry, a form of Japanese renshi
3. To give thanks for and better appreciate a life well-lived.

The flowers are a colorful bonus for the #AtoZChallenge

X is for eXpress and  Xyris Difformis

eXPRESS THE LONGINGS

Paris in the ‘70’s inspired
you to express
the longings deep within
To hear the music that your soul played
Whenever spirits craved
Encouragement

Euphoria filled the air as you
Strolled the boulevards
and Champs Élysée,
Searching

Diamonds were not treasures worth
your heart strings, in a place
where wine
and chocolate
Co-exist

Is youth anymore memorable than current times? For myself, I prefer to continue making memories rather than sitting back and reveling in the playful days gone by. Every once in a while, though, it is fun to reminisce.

  1. Hi Gail - we have our own history - we will always remember, others will remind us of other times ... but I too prefer to be thinking forward ... positively moving on ... oh and it was good to see the Xyris ... cheers Hilary

    1. Yellow flowers have a special place in my heart and only very recently did I realize/remember why. Some memories do bury themselves deeply.

  2. They are well and deeply-buried by now. I don't care much about diamonds or chocolate or wine. Excellent poem.

    1. I've always done without the diamonds, Jacqui, and the wine is now easily left behind. But the chocolate is very current.

  3. What a lovely theme you've been pursuing for this challenge. I don't think youth is more memorable than current times, but I do feel the threads connecting who I am now to pieces of the long ago. I'm not actually sure how helpful it is to use up current life bandwidth with replays from the past, but as you said it can be fun (and sometimes quite useful) to reminisce and reflect.

    eXcellent poem and lovely flower.

    1. Thank you for visiting, Deborah. I like your phrase about using up current life bandwidth with replays from the past, a gentle way of suggesting we live in the present. eXcellent advice.

  4. I think I'm a forward-thinking kind of person. But I can be inclined to moments of nostalgia, though not for very long.
Chocolates? I have a savory tooth not a sweet tooth; though I do enjoy the occasional chocolate, as long as it has nuts inside, I'm happy.

    1. Ah, Michelle, you would OD on the reasonably-priced boxes of chocolate covered macadamia nuts here!

    2. Sounds delicious....cashew/brazil/macadamia/pecan...love all types of nuts!

  5. I agree, I most definitely want to forge ahead... creating new memories and discovering new cultures. However, I do enjoy photographing my journeys so that I can sit down occasionally and reminisce.

    1. I agree Molly, it is nice to have pleasant memories to return to occasionally; not living in the past, but enjoying the glow of past experiences.
